Our story
Attrell started in 1961 as a small groundworks outfit working on driveways and paths around London. The work came by word of mouth then, and to a large extent it still does — a good proportion of the jobs we price today come from someone who saw us working on a neighbour’s house.
Over 65 years the materials have changed enormously. Concrete and crazy paving gave way to block paving in the eighties, porcelain and resin arrived in the last decade. What has not changed is what sits underneath — get the excavation, the sub-base and the drainage right and almost any surface will last. Get them wrong and the most expensive materials in the world will not save it.
We are still family run, still working across the same part of the country, and still turning up ourselves rather than subcontracting the job out to whoever is available that week.
How we work
Every job starts with a visit. We measure up, look at where the water goes, check what is underneath if we can, and talk through what you actually want the space to do. Then we put a written quote together with the materials and timescales spelled out.
There is no hard sell, no one-day-only discount, and no pressure to decide while we are stood on your drive. Take the quote, compare it with others, and come back to us if it stacks up.
Where we work
We cover London and the South East. If you are not certain whether you are in range, just ask — we travel further for larger projects and will tell you honestly if somewhere is too far for us to service properly.

We do the boring bits properly
Excavation depth, sub-base compaction, drainage falls, edge restraints. None of it shows in a photograph, and all of it decides whether the job is still perfect in fifteen years.
We quote what it costs
The price we put in writing is the price you pay. We would rather lose a job to a cheaper quote than win it and start finding extras once the ground is open.
We say no sometimes
If what you are asking for will not last, or a cheaper option would serve you better, we will tell you. It has cost us work. It has also kept us going for over sixty years.
We leave it tidy
Site kept safe, materials stacked neatly, road swept at the end of each day. You live there, and so do your neighbours.
